Digestion Clinic

As you will probably be painfully aware, bad bloating is a disorder characterised most commonly by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea. As many as 1 in 5 people in the UK population have symptoms of bad bloating.

Bad bloating causes a great deal of discomfort and distress, but it does not permanently harm the intestines or lead to a serious disease such as cancer. For some unfortunate people, the symptoms of bad bloating can be disabling, causing significant impact on personal and professional life.

Using the revolutionary Health Detective Screening System, our Digestive Screening involves testing for food sensitivities, nutritional and hormonal imbalances, parasites and fungal overgrowth.

A probe is pressed against the skin and a frequency passed through to brass in the opposite hand. The client does not feel any discomfort

NB: Food Allergies: An ALLERGIC reaction is immediate and occurs very soon after eating allergenic foods.

With a true allergy the immune system mistakes a food for an invader and goes into overdrive to repel it (the only reliable test for Allergic reactions is a blood test).

The Health Detective Screening system is not a medical diagnostic tool, we simply identify what may be aggravating the gut.

Only your GP can diagnose bad bloating.

Food Intolerances are checked to identify possible offending foods. If a food is eaten daily to which a person is intolerant, it will cause bloating, wind and erratic bowel habits. The Digestion Screening is very effective at establishing which food frequencies the skin resists. The main foods tend to be spices, sugar, dairy, wheat, yeast or gluten (barley, rye, oats and wheat). It is advisable to remove the offending foods from the diet for 6 weeks to allow the digestive system to heal.

Other causes may be a lack of essentials to initially digest the food, enzymes, B vitamins, vitamin K, hydrochloric acid, digestive enzymes and even good bacteria in the small intestine.

Endocrine imbalances are checked as stress is a known factor in digestive imbalances. The hormone frequencies are checked to see how the body responds including the stress hormones, energy and metabolism hormones.

Herbal and homeopathic remedies can be recommended to help balance the endocrine system.

During the health screening, the energetic frequencies of parasites, bacteria and fungi are assessed, which are known contributors to digestive imbalances.

Herbs are used to soothe the digestive tract or stimulate digestion and nutritional supplements to bring the body back to ‘balance’ quickly.

Colonic Hydrotherapy

This procedure can help people rebalances their colon, as it cleanses the bowel of waste material. The water helps to soften the waste that may be trapped and irritating the colon. It also helps re-shape it where there may be an area in spasm.

Alternating between warm and cool water and the use of herbs can help to alleviate gas and pressures inside the colon. The Association of Colonic Hydrotherapists (ARCH) are working with the Bad Bloating Network to facilitate awareness and self management of digestive imbalances.

Abdominal Massage

This is a good alternative to Colonic Hydrotherapy for people who feel that nothing could possibly induce them to have a Colonic treatment. It is a popular, inexpensive and effective treatment, especially benefiting those suffering from digestive disorders, sluggish bowels. Using small circular and lymphatic draining techniques, it ultimately encourages the elimination of unwanted toxins and improves bowel function.

Conventional Medical Procedures

We also suggest working with a Consultant Gastroenterologist, such as Dr Simon Campbell. He states that in his practice, 10% or more of patients with an initial diagnosis of Bad Bloating can have a more serious underlying bowel disorder (needing conventional medical therapy). He investigates bowel disorders to exclude more serious conditions such as cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and Coeliac disease as well as helping his patients to manage these conditions.

Tests available after referral from your GP or recommended by Natural Practices are:
Gastroscopy – examination of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach, duodenum (small intestine) using a long thin mini video camera.
PillCam Capsule Endoscopy – Investigation of the three portions of the small intestine- the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, using a pill-sized video camera.
Colonoscopy – Investigation of the large intestine Large bowel) using a thin, flexible telescope.

The Gut Brain Connection

95% of the body’s serotonin is found in the bowels. Any dysfunction within the bowel or in the connection between the brain and the gut can have a serious effect on the bodies’ ability to maintain homeostasis, which can affect our mental well-being, behaviour and sleep. As previously mentioned, food intolerances, poor diet, stress, anti-biotics and environmental toxins can all cause severe gut disruption and inflammation. This then produces digestive symptoms such as abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, gas and bloating. Some 100 million neurons embedded along the wall of the gut allow us to control digestion and also send messages from the gut to the brain and not just the other way round. This influences our state of mind. Scientists are also discovering that the gut uses over 30 neurotransmitters to communicate – just like the brain.
