Tuina Treatment

Tuina was first used as far back as 206 BC and is still widely used today in Chinese hospitals. It excels in pain relief, sprains and pulled muscles, physical and mental stress. It is particularly effective in the treatment of:

• Sports injuries
• Muscle & joint pain
• Digestive problems
• Bloated feelings
• Insomnia
• General wellbeing

What is Tuina Chinese Technique?

Tuina is the practice of techniques which make up the practical strand of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Techniques which stimulate acupoints in different parts of the body to help correct imbalances of the Yin and Yang energies in the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the client as a whole person and treats the cause of the illness or condition, not just the symptoms. It believes that it is not possible to separate the psychological from the physical condition. Chinese medicine aims to understand what is causing or creating an obstacle in the flow of energy in the body, and Tuina Treatment works on re-establishing the balance and harmony of those energies thus returning the client to a state of wellbeing.

In practice, Tuina uses massage-type techniques on muscles, with the aim of resolving pain by assisting the circulation of blood and energy and by boosting the body's natural immune system and pain defence. Massage techniques on joints and vertebraes work on mobility and anti-inflamation. Tuina techniques are excellent in treating symptoms already present, as well as prevention and maintaining well being.

What you should expect during your Tuina treatment

As with any holistic approach, in the first session the Practitioner will need to find out the root of the problem, and will ask questions about symptoms and also about your lifestyle and other aspects of your life which could have an influence on your health.

After the initial diagnosis a personal programme will be devised. This will primarily consist of Tuina technique, but may also include adjustments to diet and an exercise programme.

During the treatment sessions the Practitioner will work on the surface area of your skin with a combination of therapeutic massage, moxibustion (heat therapy), plum blossom needle therapy Guasha and cupping therapy. Even though the treatment is carried out solely on the surface of the skin and is non-invasive, clients often feel its effect within the first couple of sessions although, on occasions, benefit may be felt towards the end of the programme.
