Insomnia

Insomnia is difficulty in falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking in the early hours and not being able to get back to sleep. Poor diet, blood sugar imbalance, caffeine, stress, alcohol, anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalance especially around the menopause and some medicines can contribute. The need for one long period of sleep at night reduces as we get older.

We have found that insomnia often has a hormonal cause, such as an imbalance in blood sugar or even adrenal fatigue. We test this using the 'Health Detective Screening System' which can check for subtle changes in the hormones. Blood test only pick up on the more obvious cases but changes can be made by the body for months or years with clients gradually feeling the symptoms.

Sometimes food intolerances can be a trigger and this can be tested together with the above and any offending foods can subsequently be removed from the diet for a few weeks. There can also be deficiencies in key nutrients such as magnesium which is normally pushed into the cells at night to move calcium out.

We have had much success in helping restore balance to the body thus re-establishing restful sleep. This is often one of the quickest things to improve once balance has been restored, with clients seeing improvements in just a few weeks.
