Hypnotherapy for IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Using Hypnotherapy for the treatment of IBS has achieved impressive results, which are now recognised by the NHS and enable patients to manage their symptoms. In many cases, patients become symptom free, needing only occasional 'top-ups' of Hypnotherapy treatment for maintenance.
Patients: If you are considering Hypnotherapy / CBT for IBS. Ask your doctor if he / she will fund your treatment. The NICE Guidelines for IBS allow doctors to pay for hypnosis / CBT for IBS treatment after 12 months of non effective drug therapy.
"RECOMMENDATION: Referral for psychological interventions (cognitive behavioural therapy [CBT], hypnotherapy and/or psychological therapy) should be considered for people with IBS who do not respond to Pharmacological treatments after 12 months and who develop a continuing symptom profile (described as refractory IBS)"
