Hypnotherapy explained
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind. If you have ever day-dreamed or stared into space, lost in thought, this is a form of trance, very similar to Hypnosis.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a way of accessing the client's subconscious mind by inducing a state of relaxation. In this responsive state, it becomes possible to elicit positive change through suggestion and guidance. It is generally considered helpful if the client is personally motivated and committed to change.
Will I be in Control?
Yes, absolutely. You will be fully conscious of your surroundings and aware of the Hypnotherapist's voice guiding you. Your subconscious mind will always protect you and has purely your best interests at heart; it only accepts suggestions that are beneficial and will never compromise your own moral codes or boundaries.
What Can I Expect?
After an initial discussion, usually by phone, about what it is you want to change, the Hypnotherapist will ask some questions about your background in order to build up a picture. This stage also helps clients to relax, become familiar with the voice and build up an initial rapport. Depending on the behaviour or change to be made, the first session will usually focus on relaxation which enables the client to feel comfortable and safe within the environment and to become familiar with the pattern of hypnosis. The Hypnotherapist will then decide on the number of sessions required - each client's needs are individual - although this may change depending on how quickly the client responds. For example, when treating IBS, between 5-6 sessions are recommended, with up to 12 sessions for severe cases.
Can Anyone be Hypnotised?
Yes they can. Once people have given permission and are committed to change, they respond readily, with many saying they look forward to their next session as it is the most relaxed they have ever felt.
