Hayfever
Hayfever is an allergic reaction to wind blown pollens. It develops in the spring usually due to tree pollens, or in the summer due to grass and weed pollens. Some hayfevers develop in response to airborne fungus spores which is most common in mid March to late November.
Symptoms: Watery nasal discharge and sneezing. Itchy nose and eyes. Usually associated with a particular sensitivity.
Major causes
Food allergy: eggs, fish, shellfish, nuts, peanuts with an immediate onset of sensitivity.
Milk, chocolate, wheat, citrus and food colorings have a delayed onset of sensitivity.
Elimination diets have been successful in treating Asthma especially in children.
Eliminate food additives as some ingredients can cause asthma or allergies in susceptible individuals.
Environmental Sensitivities are never just as simple as identifying and avoiding things within the environment. These sensitivities occur initially due to digestive disturbance, often beginning at childhood, but can suddenly re-appear as an adult.
Removing known allergens from the environment can be quite a challenge but may be sometimes be possible. One thing over which we have control is our diet. In 100% of cases we have seen, there has either been a deficiency of key nutrients, a food intolerance, or both.
Many people have deficiencies in the body's first line of defence - digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid. If the body is expending all its energy on digesting food, the immune system is left to go a little awry and can start reacting to foods as well as to environmental agents. Hayfever tends to be of multiple factors and therefore all environmental sensitivities are checked together with foods in order to identify all root causes of the hayfever.
During an Environmental Sensitivities test we check 44 substances including:
Pet hair, Rubber, Silk, Wasps/Bees, Grass/ Shrubs/ Flowers/ Pollens/ Weeds and Tree Pollens, House dust mite.
A short detoxification period may be advised, together with the avoidance of intolerant food (if any) and a correct supplementation programme suggested. We have had huge success in helping people who suffer from hayfever (allergic rhinitis), contact dermatitis, constant 'fluey' feelings and constant sneezing.
