Cellulite

What causes cellulite? This question is still the subject of scientific debate. We definitely know that it mostly affects women, so there is much speculation that the underlying cause is hormonal in nature. Symptoms are:

  • Pitting, bulging and deformation of the skin
  • 99% of cases occur in women
  • Symptoms may include feeling of tightness and heaviness in areas ( especially legs)
  • Tenderness of the skin is quite apparent when the skin is pinched, pressed upon or vigorously massaged
  • Predominantly the buttocks, thighs, lower part of abdomen nape of neck and upper arms

Weight reduction and exercise, Weight loss should be undertaken SLOWLY otherwise appearance will look worse.

Massage is very beneficial, self administered by hand or brush - the physical and mechanical effects of massage improves circulation of blood and lymph - the direction of massage should always be from the extremities towards the heart.
Exercise 20 - 30 minutes 5 days a week (aerobic exercise)

It is very important to work on a diet high in complex carbohydrates and low in refined carbs & fat.

Lymphatic Drainage sessions are extremely beneficial. For more advice on diet, a Naturopathic Consultation can put you on the right track. As cellulite is a sign of an accumulation of toxins once the body has been stimulated to drain these toxins, there is no reason why cellulite should remain.

Please telephone or email to book an appointment for a Naturopathic Consultation followed by a Lymphatic Drainage Treatment. Please note that talculm powder is used during the treatment. If there are any allergies to this, please make us aware when booking the appointment and again on the day.
