Acne
Acne is the presence of blackheads or whiteheads
Superficial pustules (collections of pus at the follicular opening)
Nodules (tender collections of pus deep in the skin)
Cysts (from nodules that fail to discharge their contents to the surface)
Large deep pustules ( from nodules that break down adjacent scar tissue) leading to scars
Most common at puberty, but may also affect adults - most common of all skin problems. Occurs mainly on the face, but sometimes the chest, back and shoulders.
Occurs in two forms:
Acne Vulgaris: affecting the hair follicles and oil secreting glands of the skin and manifesting as blackheads, whiteheads and inflammation.
Acne Conglebata: a more serious form with deep cyst formation and subsequent scarring.
Natural Practices have had much success using a Food Intolerance test to identify possible offending foods. If you are eating something to which you are intolerant, your skin can object and this can be seen as either acne or small lumps under the skin surface. A Vitamin & Mineral test can help to establish if there are any essential nutrients lacking.
Deficiencies can mean that the body doesn't have the tools to regenerate the skin and so there is poor healing which can lead to scarring. Occasionally there are hormone imbalances which can influence the skin - in both male and female - and subtle imbalances may not be picked up on blood tests. We use the Health Detective Screening System to check for all of the above. This means we can accurately assess the root cause to skin problems and hopefully put an end to poor skin (and lack of confidence due to it). We have had much success with this and as the skin is a reflection of our inner health, and it starts to improve, energy, digestion and immune health all improve as well. With the correct food intake the difference in appearance and health is quickly apparent.
A short detoxification period, herbal and nutritional supplements may be recommended along with introducing new foods to the diet. The skin tends to regenerate quite quickly and results should be seen in about four weeks. We may occasionally suggest Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment.
